Boat, motor and trailer papers

Michael Van Eck is the guardian of the original documents of the following:

Carte grise for each boat and trailer
Anti-pollution certificate for each motor
Electrical conformity certificate for Gipsy as she has a mains wiring circuit

Michael also maintains the database of these documents see below.

Please note that Michael is not the guardian for any other documents, nor is he responsible for informing maintenance coordinators when periodic controls and/or antipollution tests are due.

Maintenance coordinators and interested YCC members

From the database, you can:

Access scanned copies of these documents if you wish to print off a copy and keep on board – or create QR codes for online access
See when the next periodic controls are due for each boat and trailer – a convocation will however be received by the club when it is actually due
Check that a motor's antipollution certificate is up-to-date – essential for police checks and periodic controls

If you require the original copies of any of these documents for periodic controls etc. you should contact Michael to arrange for their pick-up and return.

Official Licenses, Equivalences and Foreign Navigation Permits

General Rules

The Geneva Office Cantonal des Véhicules requires a valid sailing license ("permis de navigation") recognized by the Swiss authorities for skipping any Swiss registered sailboat with more than 15m2 of sails.
This includes our Surprises, J/70, J/80, Gibsea and Dynamic 3000 which could be skipped by club members owning SU and GS keys (with the J, J7 and D3 familiarizations).

Thus, the situation is as follows:

Case 1: the Swiss residents must have the Swiss the D (sailing) license to sail our large keelboats.
Case 2: the French residents must have the Swiss the D (sailing) license or a licence from a country signatory of resolution 40 of UNECE translated in French (RYA is Ok) to sail our large keelboats.
Case 3: the residents of other countries must provide a license valid in their country of residence and from a country signatory of resolution 40 UNECE. Otherwise the must have the Swiss D (sailing) license.

The Geneva Office Cantonal des Véhicules accepts registration to the sailing test by non-Swiss residents. When applying, you must state that you apply because you sail with a Swiss club on Swiss boats.

Only non Swiss-residents YCC members aiming at the M-key need now taking the YCC internal theory test.

Specific Rules for French Residents

Requirements for Swiss Residents and Recognition of Foreign Licenses by the Swiss Authorities

Please note that decree Nr 7 states that you must request a new Swiss navigation license when moving from one canton to another
Decree Nr 45 regulates the possibility for a person residing temporarily in Switzerland to skipper the boats for which he/she owns a license of his/her country of regular residence.
Decree 54-1 states that only the German and Austrian navigation licenses can be exchanged for Swiss ones when moving to Switzerland. The change is compulsory if you reside more than 12 months in Switzerland.
