The 2022 Annual General Meeting of the Yachting Club CERN (YCC) will take place on Tuesday, November 22th, 2022, starting at 18:30.
Details will follow shortly.
This year the End of Year Dinner will take place on Wednesday, November 16th, from 19:00 in Café de la Place, in Meyrin.
Since the start of the 2022 season a YCC women's team has participated in Swiss Sailing League training camps, trained hard together, and represented YCC in high-level regattas with some exciting success, in both women's and open events.
Swiss Sailing League Association (SSLA) was on a mission to promote and support women's sailing in 2022 and held 3 training camps for women and a Women's Cup.
Four YCC members, Elia Borrego Arnau, Kate Robertson, Anne-Laure Lamure and Nathalie Birt, participated in the inaugural training camp in Tenero early in the season and had a brilliant experience being coached by an ex-Olympian on racing J70s and meeting other sailors from clubs all over Switzerland. Nathalie went on to participate as assistant coach in the 3rd camp in Davos. Following the Tenero training camp, the team represented YCC in the Swiss Sailing League Ascona Cup - a mixed event over two days - finishing 6th out of 18 teams, some of them among the strongest in Switzerland.
Buoyed by this experience, the team continued to train hard and participated in other high-level regattas including the Swiss Sailing Women's Cup where they placed 7th overall.
Elia, Adelaide Davis, Kate and Nathalie went on to participate in Act II of the Swiss Sailing Promotion League (SSPL) in Sempach in August – a mixed event over two days – and were delighted to achieve the YCC's best ever performance, coming 1st overall and winning the event by a margin of 5 points!
Next weekend Emmet Ryan, Michal Kwiatek, Ole Marqversen and Anne-Laure Lamure, who have also been training hard, will represent YCC in Act III, the last regatta of SSPL series. YCC currently lies in 5th place overall in the series with a total of 10 points having finished 9th in Act I and 1st in Act II. We wish the team every success and a lot of fun.
Following the enthusiasm for the Swiss Sailing women's training camps, SSLA is organising a Swiss Sailing Women's League in 2023 and several mixed training camps open to coach sailors from Swiss clubs on J70 regatta sailing, particularly in the SSL criterium-style racing. YCC sailors who are keen to build their regatta skills are strongly encouraged to participate, whether as teams or individuals. The experience from this year is that the camps provide intense and valuable training from high level coaches (in 2022, two sailors who had competed and coached at multiple Olympics, one a former world champion) and are also a lot of fun, as well as a chance to meet sailors from other clubs. Participants at the 2022 camps had a range of sailing and regatta racing experience.
In 2023 YCC is keen to continue to build on the success and momentum achieved in 2022 and to harness the regatta experience of its members by establishing a pool of regatta sailors who are committed to train hard and share experience and insights. We aim to build on this year's success including through regatta training and fielding teams in highly competitive regattas, such as SSL and Criterium.
Andreas Valda, a pillar instructor of the club who trained tens of club's skippers will represent the club at the SYZ Translemanique en Solitaire in the weekend of the 26th-28th of August, on our Surprise "Mamma Mia".
