The Aim of the "Introductory Tour" is to give a live introduction to the CERN Yachting Club complementing the information provided by the documents available on the website and the theory courses.
The attendance is new members with prior sailing experience wishing to pass a test in the current season. It is obviosly open to anybody else. The emphasys should be on what makes sailing in the YCC different with respect to any other place on earth. This information are usually provided during the courses, people not following a course oftern have no occasion to be exposed to all of them.
People gather at 6 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month close to the Buvette de Port Choiseul, next to the Moby Dick sailing school.
Introduce the Thursday Practices and explain how it works while the inscription are taking place.
At this point the Thursday Crews have started to rig the boats.
Present all the boats one by one (skip Yingling).
Go to the Keelboat moorings: show the yingling, the Gipsy and the Surprises and the J-boats.
Explain the harbour entrance/exit rules:
Take the opportunity to discuss Leman weather, typical wind conditions, storms. Show the placement of the "yellow flashing lights" explain their meaning and the rule in case of storm.
Introduce the motor boat and the security shifts activity and remind them:
Move to the dinghy quai.
Introduce our dighies, explain which licence is required to sail which, show the box and lock system.
Let them to pay attention and appreciate the way our boat should be
rig and un-rig.
Stress that as the boats are used by many people, they should be kept uniform and simple to rig.
Show how dinghies are put in water and how to exit and enter the harbour.
Move to the PC room and show the boat reservation and logbook system
Explain to the participants:
This is also a nice opportunity to explain the licence system, the difference between YCC licence and national sailing licences.
Explain our maintenance rules and , what to do in case:
Explain the insurance scheme:
Take the opportunity to introduce to them our sport events and the "club spirit" that rule them.
Invite them to the following barbeque and present our social activities.
If you wish, reserve the Gipsy, a Surprise or the J/80 and do most of this on board while sailing...
Ask for comments and suggestions by inviting them to ask questions and answering to all of them during the tour itself.
