YCC Level 0 course: Welcome on Board

Start sailing with us from the beginning of the season! THE COURSE IS FREE and open to all new members of the club.

Level 0 course dates for 2024 – dates to be confirmed in March! :

• Sat and/or Sun – 27-28 April
• Sat and/or Sun – 4-5 May
• Sat and/or Sun – 18-19 May

This course is directed to new YCC members who would like to get their first sailing experience, meet other enthusiasts and have a good introduction to the Club.
New members who already have some sailing experience are also very welcome!
One of the concepts of YCC is sharing, so feel free to come, meet new people and share your knowledge!

After Level 0 course, there are many possibilities in the club to develop your skills further, like : weekly Thursday practices (!), Level 1 courses, internal regattas etc.
Scope of the course will include basic knowledge for Level 1 courses and is mandatory before taking Dinghy and Yngling course.
Also strongly recommended by teachers before Competent Crew course. No special equipment is needed, but be prepared for diverse weather conditions and wind.

Subscription

The course is free and available to new members.

The subscriptions to Level0 course are possible by:

• picking "Level 0: I am interested" in the lottery form (even if you are not willing to participate and win paid courses) – avaliable only until lottery is open
• filling the Level 0 registration form

The number of places depends on people interested, but mostly on availability of teachers. In case we are out of places, you will be added to the waiting list.
Please remember that to take part in Level0 course your membership needs to be active.

Course Program

Level0 course is given in Versoix Port Choiseul, the meeting point is The Buvette of Port Choiseul, link points to the google maps. We expect students to come sharp.

The course takes usually one full day and starts in the morning. Sometimes the land lessons and sailing outings are organized in two different days.
The details will be shared by the coordinator before the session by whatsapp group (you will be added with the number given in google sheet or club registration form).
In each session maximum 30 people can participate. Taking lunch is possible at the "Bouvette" in the port.

DATES: please See Google Calendar. The sessions might be postponed in case of bad weather and heavy rain.

Schedule of a Level0 Day

During 1 day in Versoix you will:

• go sailing on a big keelboat (2-3h)*
• learn how to rigg the dinghies (1h30)
• learn basic and necessary knots (1h30)
• have a safety briefing
• have some social activity and general information about the Club and the Port.

When you will arrive, you will be already assigned to one of the subgroups from below and attend each lesson with different teachers. The meeting point is at the Buvette tables or somewhere nearby.

Equipment Needed

We do not request special sailing equipment for the Level0, as we will show you the equipment you need for other activities and courses, we also recommend not to buy material before having followed the Level0 course. However, we kindly ask you to get prepared for a simple boat outing:

• Gym/sport shoes with white sole.
• Standard sport comfortable equipment, to protect from cold and wind, depending on the weather conditions.
• Depending on the conditions: Bonnet/Sunglasses/sun-cream.
• If you need sight-glasses, be sure you have a neck-rope to avoid they fall in the water and get lost.
• A tiny backpack with a bottle of water or a tiny snack can be useful to have on board just in case.
