2009 YCC Photo Contest Rules

Photo Eligibility

To enter, you must be YCC Member. All photos must be taken between 1 November 2008 and 31 October 2009. The photo subject must be relevant to sailing in the following contest categories:
- YCC Club Life,
- Sport photo,
- Sailing Art.

Entries must be digital images in JPEG format less than 5MB in size.

Photographer/Copyright

Entries must be submitted by the original photographer. Do not submit a photo taken by someone else. You must be the sole author of any photo submitted.

Entrance fee/Number of entries

Entrance is free; each photographer may submit up to 4 photos.

Ownership/Use Rights

Photographers retain the copyright to their photographs. By entering the contest, photographers agree to have their submitted photo used for publication at YCC Photo Contest web page, where the photo will be credited to the author. Photographers also agree to have their submitted photo used for future publicity of YCC without any fee, for example in printed materials, without the guarantee that the photograph will always be credited to the author.

Judging

Entries will be judged by popular vote among YCC members organised in November 2009.

Prizes

A prize will be awarded to the author of the best photo in each category.

How to Enter

Photos in the form of JPEG files (smaller than 5MB) may be submitted by email to Michal.Kwiatek@cern.ch before 31 October 2009. Each photo should be sent in a separate email, which should also specify the title of the photo and when and where the photo was taken.

Do not specify categories when you submit photos; votes will be cast by category, but the photos will be presented to the voters without categories.

Image Modifications

Minor digital modifications improving natural look of the photos are permitted as long as they are similar to the laboratory work for conventional photography.

Permitted:
- cropping and rotating as necessary, as long as the rectangular format is maintained (aspect-ratio can be changed as a result of cropping),
- resizing, as long as the aspect ratio is maintained (aspect ratio cannot be changed as a result of resizing),
- red-eye removal, dust removal and spot editing,
- one-step enhancement (such as "AutoFix", "QuickFix", "Auto Levels", etc.),
- use of filters to remove noise,
- use of corrective functions to improve the natural appearance of the image, such as levels, contrast, brightness, curves, intensity, tone, hue, saturation, lightness, value, color balance, and tint,
- changing a colorur photo to monochrome (black&wite, sepia, etc).

Not Permitted:
- adding, replacing or moving elements of the image,
- adding borders or frames,
- adding watermarks, signatures or copyright notices,
- using artistic filters or filters.
