YCC Internal Regattas

How do I take part ?

Something to know right away: monthly regattas are open to all YCC members, either using YCC boats or their own. Participation of external boats is more than welcome too.

The term 'monthly regatta' or 'internal regatta' defines some nine-ten events that YCC organizes in Port Choiseul during the sailing season, starting with the first regatta in early May to the closing regatta in mid-October.

How does this work in practice? Very easy. There is no reservation to be made; perhaps a couple of phone calls  to your YCC friends if you want to be part of a specific crew. Just show up a bit before registration time at the buvette 'Moby-Dick' in Port Choiseul.

Registration is different depending on whether you use a private boat or an YCC boat.

You want to use a YCC boat.

Active YCC members may use YCC boats for internal regattas (see also paragraph below). Boats cannot be pre-reserved and are not distributed on a first-come-first-served basis. You must first obtain one from the organizer and then register for the regatta (the two actions may happen simultaneously but they are in fact two separate steps). Shortly before the beginning of the regatta, people are asked to choose a boat and if clashes occur, they are cleared by a draw. The distribution takes places precisely at the time indicated in the Notice of Race (at 12h30 in most cases). If you come even a few minutes later, you might end up not racing that day.

The organizer of the event may grant the use of a boat to a member who does not hold the corresponding key, if safety and fairness of the race are not affected by that.

You participate with a private boat.

If you have a private boat, you can take part in a YCC regatta provided you are a YCC member, or if you have a  YCC member on board, or if you have been invited as a guest. In the latter case, you can ask for an invitation by  mailing the YCC at yachting.club@cern.ch , the reply is usually positive. As a private participant, you can register by showing up on the regatta day at registration time and by paying a small fee (see Notice of Race, for calendar and details). Alternatively, you can register by email by filling out the entry form and mailing it to yachting.club@cern.ch

Who can obtain a YCC boat for the regatta ?

Boats are allocated to active members holding the YCC licence for the class of boat they want to use. Dinghies, if any are left, may also be taken by dinghy course students. At the organizer's discretion, these guidelines can be modified to suit a particular situation.
